Margaret Amaka Ohia-Nowak is the co-founder of the Alliance for Black Justice in Poland, an organization dedicated to promoting racial equality and advocating for the rights of Black, African, and Afro-descendant communities in Central and Eastern Europe. She also serves on the organization’s advisory board and established Poland’s first School of Anti-Racist Practice, a political education and mentoring program. Margaret is committed to addressing the complexities of social justice. She is an assistant professor at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, where she conducts academic research focusing on anti-Black racist discourses and media portrayals of Black Africans in Poland. Margaret is also the executive director of Word Idea, a Diversity Equity Inclusion training company. Margaret, the daughter of a Nigerian father and a Polish mother, grew up in both Europe and Africa, which piqued her interest in how race, gender, and ethnicity shape individual and community experiences.
