Maeum Han
2025-2026 Obama Foundation Asia-Pacific Leader

Army Major and Public Policy Communications Officer, Republic of Korea Army
Republic Of Korea
Maeum Han is a major and public policy communications officer in the Republic of Korea Army. Since being commissioned in 2009, Maeum has championed initiatives to promote inclusive communication, support marginalized voices—especially women in uniform—and bridge divides between the military, civil society, and the broader public. Combining military experience with an academic background in anthropology, Maeum brings a unique perspective within the Korean armed forces. Her work focuses on building trust, reforming military culture, and advancing peace from within. Inspired by the quiet dedication of those who have served, Maeum is committed to redefining the role of the military—not simply as a force of defense, but as an essential actor in sustainable peacebuilding.
